Australia beat India in the first match of the Ongoing series. Leads 1-0

The Season of T20

The T20 world cup is just around the corner. India had a decent run at the Asia Cup, but they need to fix a few issues to become a formidable side for the World Cup. There are two home T20 series to take place consecutively against Australia and South Africa. These two teams are some of the most lethal T20 sides in the world, and Australia, the defending champions, has high morale. The World Cup is to be held in Australia; hence, a bilateral series against them right adjacent to the world cup would actually be the best challenge.

India Vs Australia The Mohali Showdown

The series began on 20th September with the first game played in the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. The squad includes Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohd. Shami, Harshal Patel, Deepak Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah. The match began with Australian captain Aaron Finch winning the toss and deciding to bowl. The decision soon turned out to be a nightmare as K.L. Rahul was in top-notch form, scored 55 runs off 35 balls, and put a good start to the Indian Innings. Though Hazlewood and Nathan Ellis continued to give sudden shocks in the form of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. But then came Suryakumar Yadav onto the pitch, and this man has been in staggering form and smashed 46 runs off just 28 balls and put Australia way behind in the game. The night was still far from over when Hardik Pandya ran down the crease and put up a fireworks show in Mohali, hitting 71 runs at the strike rate of 236 and staying till the end and carrying the Indian scoreboard to 208 runs in 20 overs.

Australia vs India

The Australian Grit and Dominance

With the number of runs on the scoreboard and the strong Indian bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah, India was confident of knocking Australia down in the series opener. What unfolded in the next two hours was nothing but embarrassment. Aaron Finch and Cameron Green came down to bat with a resolve. Cameron Green, opening for the first time ever for Australia, put up a show for the audience by hitting 61 runs at the strike rate of 203 and made the Indian bowling attack look like kindergarten kids. They reached 100 runs with 10 overs, comfortably holding on to the required run rate. Axar Patel did try his best by picking 3 wickets with an economy of 4 runs an over, but rest of everyone leaked runs like a broken tap. Steve Smith and  Mathew Wade coming down the order, capitalised on the already broken bowling attack and managed to chase down that massive score of 208 runs with 4 balls left to spare. This match was a shameful loss for team India, and they must figure out their weaknesses and try to solve them as soon as possible or else it won’t be a good journey till the T20 World Cup. The bowling looked very off colour, and the player changes done by Rohit Sharma are also to blame for this poor result despite a sensational performance by the batters.
